Learn the abundant medicine waiting for you right outside your door with this beginner-friendly, in-person, hands-on course! Reading about herbs and identification online is a great resource, but nothing beats learning from a real teacher, in person! You’ll get to see, touch, and smell the plants and sometimes taste them in this course.

Plus, you’ll get to meet other cool people and spend the day outdoors, weather permitting.

Alison Meehan has been studying foraging, plants, gardening, and herbal remedies for 25 years. She had attended the Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine, a world-renowned herbal medicine school, plus attended many other courses by survivalists such as Tom Brown, Jr.

We’ll cover:

  • Identifying wild herbs and medicinal mushrooms you can harvest locally in Virginia.
  • How to harvest, preserve, and unlock the medicinal powerhouse in these amazing herbs.
  • How to make a tincture, a salve, an herbal vinegar, an herbal honey, and teas.
  • Common ailments and the best herbs plus methods for using it.
  • Plus, we will make some of these concoctions to launch your own home apothecary.

Participants will have the opportunity to take home seeds and herbs as available on our property!

When: 10 to 3, Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025

Location: Tracks and Roots Homebase in Glen Allen, VA off Kain Road (exact address and other instructions sent out after sign-up).

Ages: 18 and up

Prerequisites: Level 1 Foraging
